It is never easy buying a gift for anyone, but when it is your grandmother, it is even harder still! Perhaps it is the two generation gaps, perhaps it is the fact that most people of grandparent age have old fashioned interests that are difficult to cater for. Whatever the reason, thefact remains that your choices are slim.
Last year I bought my grandmother some flowers, thinking I could not go wrong. It turned out that they were the wrong flowers! It seems that flowers were a more staid affair many years ago, and the bouquets found these days are somewhat garish by yesteryears comparisons, so I will know this for next time! Still I thought best to completely ignore the idea of flowers this time round!
I have also in the past chosen to buy my grandmother chocolates, but unfortunately she has reached the stage in her life where the pleasure of eating chocolate is outweighed by the damage they do to her teeth! She has barely any left, and the ones she does have are hanging on by a thread!
This year I am going for perfume. I have found a cheap perfume store online which actually sells the perfume that she has been wearing for the last twenty years! This way I know that I am buying her something that she actually likes! That’s not an easy thing to do these days, so I will be happy just to stay in her good books!

Say Sorry with Flowers
A month or so ago my girlfriend and I had a monumental bust up. As with most of these tings, it lead from something very simple, probably something that neither of us really cared about. I can’t even remember what started the argument off, but I know that it escalated so quickly that within half an hour we had said our last words to each other for about three days!
After a while of this deadlock, I began to think how pointless all of this was, and I was annoyed with myself for being too proud to back down. I realised that despite the fact that I was still angry, I Ioved her very much, and this silence between us was not worth making a point that I believed I was right.
That night after she had gone to bed, I went online and I managed to find some roses that I could order to be delivered to the house. I gave my details to the site, and looked forward to their arrival.
On the day that the flowers arrived, things were improving between the two of us. We had started talking again, although there was a strange sense of formality to our conversation. The doorbell rang, but I left it for my girlfriend. I heard her surprise when she opened it, and when she came back inside, there was a sheepish grin on her face. She told me she was sorry and that she loved me, and before I knew it we were in each other’s arms and telling each other how sorry we were. It’s a funny thing, but flowers are a powerful healer!
